I hold a masters degree in counseling psychology with an emphasis in art therapy. I have been in private practice as a psychotherapist for 26 years, and have conducted many art therapy workshops in Seattle, Santa Fe, and Ireland. All workshops are designed to the explore individuals creative process and expansion of self awareness. I have worked with fabric in one way or another since I was a child.  I first came to the world of fiber art through traditional quilting.  I found I was not good at “matching corners”, and felt the need to break out and work on pieces that were my original designs.  I worked for several years part time in a quilt store, and had the privilege to be exposed to many very talented and skilled fiber art/quilters. Over the past several years I have studied as a design student of Lorraine Torrence.  And have taken design workshops with Katie Pasquini Masopust, Michael James, Melody Crust, and Judith McMillian.  I have also attended workshops in fabric dying and marbling with Elin Noble, Carol Soderlund, and Michelle Wipplinger.  I am currently enrolled in the Opus School of Textiles, London, England.

I designed, developed, and have taught for the past three years, a 10 month class that uses the principles and elements of design as a backdrop for exploration of the student’s own creative abilities in fiber art.  The classes provide the students a safe community environment in which to take risks and, share constructive critique and knowledge.  The students work and experiment with color, texture, beads and surface embellishments. My current classes are in Seattle, Washington and Omaha, Nebraska.

As part of my artist journey it is very important for me to give back to the community.  I have built into my classes an end of the year auction of donated works from the students (and myself) to be auctioned for charity. I feel very strongly in the value of work that comes from our hands, and I believe change can be made through even the smallest of generosities. The money raised from the sale of our works has gone to benefit the food banks and programs for domestic violence.

My art work is created from an experience of connection with my personal center.  It brings me great joy to create it. Additionally, my work with my clients and students is a gift.  I am privileged to be part of their exploration and process of discovery.  As I grow and expand my own work I hope to share that expansion with not only my students, but those who enjoy my work.
